Domiciliary Care Facilities, Adult Residential Care Facilities, Rest Homes, Residential Homes, Family Care Homes, Boarding Care Homes, Personal Care Homes are all different names for board and care homes for the elderly.
Adult Family Homes are licensed family oriented homes that take in older people who pay for room and board. Usually fewer than four seniors live in one home.
Residential custodial care for the aged and disabled in a home that provides room, meals and some type of protective oversight and personal care for its residents.
These homes vary from having staff with no health care training to facilities that provide daily nursing care with a licensed staff. Cost of board and care vary widely. Amenities in board and care homes are as varied as the homes themselves so a great deal of research is necessary to find a facility that meets your individual needs. The family homes in most states refers to non-medical community-based living arrangements that provides room and board, 24 hr supervision and assistance with the activities of daily living. Monthly rates generally include housekeeping, laundry, snacks and transportation.
Small board and care homes fill a definite need. They can alleviate feelings of loneliness, residents can often bring their own furniture and many have a home-like ambiance not found in the traditional nursing facilities. They are usually one-floored dwellings and are less costly than a nursing home.
